AT&T Violates it’s own SPAM Policy (Again)

First reported by CNET back in 2000, the AT&T company violated its own spam policy a second time yesterday. Matt RichTEL reported in the New York Times that AT&T, stock symbol T (for TELephone), violated its own spam policy yet again and SPAMed its wireless customers with a text ad. I’m guessing that AT&T management may be rounding up the usual suspects. But, it would be better if they just issue a memo to their employees to read their own business policies, in all CAPs this time. Read some of the Twitter tweets here (these display best using IE7).

My theory of the Bernie Madoff phenomenon

My theory is that somewhere back in Madoff’s lineage was a con man of great skill. Please understand that this is pure speculation on my part. Look, this guy’s last name was Mad[e]off, as in “Bernie made off with our money”.  Somewhere back in this guy’s ancestry, his father, his grandfather, or perhaps his great grandfather, there was a con man of great skill, if you wish to call the despicable ability at cheating people a skill.  After a few generations of training the next generation, these guys just get better and better.  I heard that the only reason this Madoff got caught just now is because this guy was SO greedy that he also conned his sons, who turned him in.  If he had not lied to his sons, he might not have been caught at this time.  But, sooner or later it is inevitable that the show will be over. Eventually, every ponzi scheme runs out of suckers to suck from, at which time they can no longer pay the “early in” suckers.  So, you may be asking “Why would he use the name Mad[e]Off?”. It is because these guys love the cruel joke which their victims only realize after it is too late. They are not good examples of how to run your life.

You CAN cheat an honest man

My father used to say that “you can’t cheat an honest man”. I’m not sure of the origin of this, but I do think it false, mainly because in my mind honesty and ethical behavior are the same thing. Is it possible to be ethical and of average intelligence at the same time? I think so. In my opinion, an average honest lawyer is no match for a superstar dishonest one in many situations. My experience is this; an honest person of average intelligence may be no match for a dishonest one of superstar intelligence when each are opposite parties of a business deal. We engage in simple business deals every day. Whenever one person offers goods or service at a price and another accepts the offer a deal is done. The fact is that in this world there are people who will try to take advantage of others. The internet marketing space today is filled with miners (novice internet marketers) looking to strike it rich and willing to buy this tool or that training which will help them find gold, and it is also filled with shovel salesmen (veteran internet marketers) who are more than happy to sell them tools or training and relieve them of their money. Many veteran internet marketers you encounter in cyberspace are likely have a story about how they spent years making every mistake you can imagine and now they are ready to help you (a novice internet marketer) to strike it rich. So, I won’t insult your intelligence and do the same thing here. Remember that you are their gold field. Evaluate their offer carefully and thoughtfully before closing the deal. Make sure that you understand ALL the terms and keep a copy. You can cheat an honest man, but there are ethical marketers out there.
